I just got the email update about my Pink DS Lite. It was shipped! Unfortunately it is enjoying its stay at the Hong Kong airport and won’t be here before I go to Cali. However, it will be here waiting for me when I return. Mario and I will be spending some serious quality time and woe unto anybody who interrupts us.

Update to the previous post about me buying an iPod for my flight. Yeah, no. Adam asked me why I was only looking at the trendy music player instead of all my options and quite honestly, I’d never thought about or investigated any others. So today, after doing some online research, I’m going to Fry’s (yeah we have Fry’s in Atlanta..aren’t you jealous) to check out some of the other players. I’m already attracted to the Creative Zen V although it sucks that I can’t use it on my Mac. That little thing is sexy looking though. I’ll post what I decide on later on today (maybe).

Have a good weekend folks.

I called it. Taylor Hicks won American Idol and I don’t think they could have had a more fitting winner. He’s so cute…something about the personality mixed with the dignified grey hair…yum. Meanwhile, the number of votes that came in was pretty huge. If people showed up to vote for president in those kinds of numbers, maybe, gas would be cheaper right now?

So my trip to New York was good fun. I did go to the Apple store opening but I didn’t actually go in. By the time I got there the line was ridculously long. No Macbook for me and definitely no iPod since they weren’t giving them away. I got some pictures of the outside of the place though. Its rather nice looking and the underground store concept is hot. I do wonder what would happen in case of a fire with a store full of people. That day was pretty awesome all around as I was 100 ft away from at least 2 billionaires in one day. Ah, if only richness rubbed off.

This weekend I’m picking up my sister and nephews and driving up to NC for our cousins wedding. I’m worried that the trip is going to be extremely boring, given that I’m used to roadtripping with my iPod. How I miss MyPod.

Last thing to touch on before I go to bed. The DaVinci Code. I will start by saying that I am a Christian. That being said, I’m also a fairly smart Christian and can easily discern fact and fiction. Here’s a hint; if a book is in the fiction section of the bookstore, its probably fiction (*shock*) and should be considered as such. I can’t understand why people make such a big fuss about a book. It’s not like the DaVinci Code is out to replace the Bible. It’s simply a good FICTIONAL story that makes for good reading.

Time for sleep now. If I don’t post again before Friday, have a SAFE weekend folks.

I’m SO traumatized. My laptop upped and died this weekend. My iPod decided it liked how my laptop did things and followed suit. I fly to Chicago tommorow. The boredom I am going to endure as a result of these occurrences is going to be immense. The laptop issue should be solved fairly shortly. The iPod is another matter. I’m going to listen to what Apple says about what to do if my iPod won’t turn on but I’m not holding out a lot of hope.

Anyhow, I arrived home safely from Pittsburgh on Friday (obviously) and I must say the Pittsburgh airport is quite impressive. I think if I have to have a layover anywhere, it may just be Pittsburgh. Why? Because the Pittsburgh airport has a mall inside the terminal. Apparently the same thing is included in Thurgood Marshall and Logan International airports. I guess layovers at those airports wouldn’t be so bad either.

Moving on, today I resolved to start saving. Yes, its a little late but better late than never. I signed up for that Keep the Change thing that Bank of America has going. I also set my bank account to transfer some money to my savings account every 2 weeks. This may not seem like much to some of the people who read my blog, but to me, its a big deal. I want to be able to send my kids (if I’m ever blessed with them) and nieces/nephews to college one day. This is just a step towards that.

Meanwhile, back to laundry, I have to go to the airport tommorow at 8:30 am and I haven’t packed anything. I need to not procrastinate so much.

You remember back a couple years ago, Free iPod mania swept the nation? Okay maybe thats going a smidge overboard. You can’t deny that there was a lot of buzz on the internets about it. I managed to nab a few free things myself during that time period and on. Back then, little known company Gratis Internet won the hearts of many cash strapped college students. However, today, after a name change, a policy change, and some unsettling information, I have to wonder, if the free ride is over?

On March 1st, I got a nice email from Freepay (what Gratis changed their name to) stating that I now had 90 days to complete my free offers and get however many signups that I needed. What’s this? A policy change? So I head on over to the Freepay website and find…nothing. No explanation, no quick blurb about a major policy change, no “Click here to find out more about our recent changes.” Just nothing. So I click to their “News Blog” and again nothing. That struck me as odd so I head over to a forum that has been around since the beginning of the free site fun. What I’ve read there has is what led me to my conclusion about the end of the ride.

First, Jake, the resident Gratis/Freepay representative, has no real answers about the change of policy. Not a bit of insight into why, exactly, it is required for people to complete their accounts in 90 days. Later, a half-hearted explanation about the policy change “from the top” of Gratis/Freepay states they made the policy change for accurate financial planning and statistics showing that 93% of people finish their accounts in less than 90 days. I find that number hard to believe as so many people sign up and NEVER do anything with their accounts (trust me, I have accounts full of them).

Second, Gratis/Freepay instructed Jake to lie about what was first called a “glitch” that was causing peoples accounts to stay in Pending Approval status but turned out to be an offer that Gratis/Freepay was having a problem with. This does not bode well for any business, let alone one that has to battle to be believed to begin with.

Third, and most alarming, is the revelation that Gratis/Freepay, who promised never to share users information, has in fact, sold millions of users information to a company named Datran, who had to cough up this information in an investigation. As a result, Gratis/Freepay is now under investigation by Eliot Spitzer.

All this makes one wonder how Gratis/Freepay will fare in the next few months. Is the investigation the REAL reason for the policy change? Are they trying to scale back just in case Spitzer smacks them with billions of dollars in fines? I guess we’ll have to watch and see. Meanwhile, let me get back to hustling to get my last four signups for a free computer before they go under.
